ARTIST STATEMENT

My passion for life, years of training in music and art motivate me in developing a series of abstract paintings with colors, forms, lines, and strokes  interplaying within a confined space.  The abstraction becomes visually harmonized as symmetry of musical tonal harmony in a given moment of time.

I build up my paintings with repeatedly adding, subtracting, blending, scraping, smearing, scratching, and dripping paints.  The drips are used to stimulate the surface and activate the other elements within the painting and they create a tension caused by the potential energy inherent in an unfinished act.  Tension and balance through the layering of colors and hues evokes deep emotional reactions from the observer.  The creator and viewer meet on the canvas to collaboratively experience individual thoughts and perception.
